WELDING OF HEAD HARDENED RAILS WIDE GAP JOINTS COMBINATION JOINTS OF DIS-SIMILAR RAIL SECTONS
WELDING OF 110UTS ALLOY STEEL RAILS COMPRESSED AIR-PETROL PREHEATING AUTOMATIC TAPPING THIMBLE

AUTOMATIC TAPPING THIMBLE

Up till 1990, a manual tapping method was used by the Indian Railways for the release of molten steel after completing the Thermit Reaction.

India Thermit introduced the 'Automatic Tapping Thimbles' in the 1990's for its overseas markets. The Automatic Tapping Thimble has the following advantages:

1.    It allows tapping at a pre-determined temperature thereby eliminating errors which are common in manual tapping like early
       or late tapping.

With early tapping, slag could accompany weld steel.
With late tapping, weld steel could become cooler which may cause inadequate fusion.

2.   Safety factor increases as people are not required near the crucible thus eliminating the possibility of injury.

The Indian Railways have shown a strong interest in Automatic Tapping Thimbles. We are actively conducting field trials for this product.
